Music is a joyful and meaningful part of worship, ministry, fellowship and learning at GFBC. Laura directs our adult and youth choirs, the adult handbell choir, and instrumental ensembles, and oversees our three children's choirs and two youth handbell choirs. She assists in the planning of weekly Sunday worship services, and special worship services which occur during Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter and other seasons throughout the church year. Laura is also responsible for special musical events such as retreats, and participation in choir and handbell festivals. She plans community outreach with Christmas caroling and providing short musical programs at local assisted living communities.


Her Music Education degree (focus on piano and voice) and Master's in Music (focus on choral conducting) are from Radford University in Virginia. She has served as Chancel Choir Director at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Pulaski, VA, and also as Director of Music Ministries at White Plains United Methodist Church in Cary, NC. Laura gained public school experience by teaching general music and chorus at the elementary and high school levels in Patrick and Henry counties in VA. Her teaching experience also includes serving as the Director of Choral Arts, Fine Arts Department Chairperson, and Liaison to Community Schools Program at Athens Drive High School in Wake County.


Laura is a native of Castlewood, VA. She and her husband, Matt, were married in 1997 and moved to NC in 2000. They and their daughter, Emily, reside in Apex.
