Responding to Hunger

GFBC has a commitment to confront hunger in our community. We do this through work in our schools with our Backpack Buddy program, both through stocking on-site pantries and packing individualized bags for students. We also stock a shelf at the Dorcas Crisis Ministry Center Food Bank. We partner with the Kirk of Kildaire and Cary Presbyterian Church to provide hot meals for local students when school is out for the summer, too. We consider these efforts to eradicate hunger to be a direct response to Jesus’ teachings:

He said also to the one who had invited him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.  And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Luke 14:12-14
