Responding to Hunger

GFBC has a commitment to erase hunger both locally and worldwide. We do this in several ways. Locally, we work in our schools with our Backpack Buddy program, we stock a shelf at the Dorcas Crisis Ministry Center Food Bank, and we give generously to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. We also host a Stop Hunger Now meal packing day each year that benefits hungry folks worldwide. Our bi-annual Stop Hunger Christmas Bazaar benefits both Wake Interfaith and Stop Hunger now and in its fifth year raised over 12,000 dollars. We consider our efforts to eradicate hunger to be a direct response to Jesus’ teachings:

He said also to the one who had invited him, “When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.  And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.” Luke 14:12-14
