Give peace a chance this Christmas—forgive a family member. The holidays very often reveal the parts of a family that aren’t the most peaceful. Old grudges are renewed and new grievances bring new pain. The only way to get past those problems is to sit and talk to one another. Sometimes if you can’t arrange that, prayer is your only option.
The kind of peace we look for in our families very often takes precedence over the kind of peace that God wants to share with us. Jesus came to die for us not just so that our families would be happy and make nice Christmas cards but so that we would experience the joy of a full relationship with God. That kind of peace can only be found in time spent seeking God.
During this season of Advent, choose peace. Spend enough time with God to find it and then share it in your families. Who knows you might be able to bring about the peace and joy that the angels sang about. Shalom.
