A Guide for our Guests
Upcoming Events
- Youth Silent Auction
The youth will be holding a silent auction as part of the Sweetheart Banquet on February 8th. If you are able to donate any items for this auction, please speak to Helen Gibbs or Beth Tote. Items that have been popular at auctions in the past include basketball tickets, hockey tickets, services such as tutoring and yard work, and gift baskets. Anything that you can donate would be greatly appreciated. The money raised from the auction will go towards summer camp for the youth. This year we are going to Passport Choices, a CBF-sponsored discipleship camp at Wingate College. Be looking for more details about the dinner, the auction and the camp in our newsletter, the Enabler
- Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network
We will host three to five homeless families in our church from January 18-25 through the Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network. Volunteers are needed to prepare meals, spend the night, and drive a 15-passenger van. Please contact Donna Scott if you can help or fill out the volunteer form on at gfbccary.org/forms/WIHNvolunteer.php.
- New Sunday School Class
GFBC is now offering a new adult Sunday School that focuses on deepening the spiritual journey. Class members explore different prayer traditions and study scripture together with the intention of growing as disciples of Christ. The class meets at 9:50 a.m. in the Church Parlor. All are welcome.
Bible Studies
- First Sunday of the Month - "Faith and Film" is the title of a study, generally held on the first Sunday of each month from 5:00-6:30 p.m., utilizing the culture of cinema to help us understand God in deeper ways. In January we will discuss the film "Tender Mercies" on January 25th. Participants should view the movie before attending the session. Topics such as grace, suffering, community, and joy will be examined. For more information.
- Wed. Night
This Bible Study will resume after Christmas. Join us at 5:15 for our fellowship dinner followed by Bible study.
- Childcare provided for both Bible studies.

Mission Spotlight - HOPE Angel Tree Project
Thank you to all who participated in Angel Tree 2008. I hope you were blessed by your experience and joyful that you brought smiles to our Angel Tree children and families.
A few statistics:
We were given 100 names of Angel Tree children in Wake County from Prison Fellowship Ministries.
We made contact and were able to serve 89 of the 100 children. We were unable to make contact with caregivers of 11 children and in two families, the caregivers chose not to participate in the program.
We received 178 gifts from our congregation for the 89 children we were able to serve.
We received $1,392.00 from our congregation in monetary donations.
Three delivery teams delivered gifts and goody bags to 30 families in Wake County.
We shipped gifts and goody bags to 16 families.
Nine families or around 35 people came to the Angel Tree party. Some of the children we played with and made crafts with at the party were Jonah and Johan; Christopher; Zayden and Tyler; Cristina, Monalleli, and Diocelin; Justize, Keypatra, Lyric, and Emon; Alfredo and Daniel; Cerae; Sayqwan; and Haley.
Approximately 40 people volunteered for some or all aspects of the Angel Tree project.
Thank you again for your generosity and giving hearts as you showed love to the Angel Tree children and families.
