The Children's Ministry at GFBC is a dynamic group of dedicated teachers and volunteers who strive every week to engage our children in the learning style that fits each individual. We layer scripture, lessons, and interactive learning with games to teach children in an age-appropriate manner. We use a faith formation model realizing that a meaningful relationship with God comes through not only a personal relationship with the God we teach about, but also through the liturgy and sacraments that are so important to the life of the church community. Our mission statement is:
GFBC offers an inclusive and safe ministry for children, birth through fifth grade, that embraces diversity and equips children and their families to know, grow and show God's love through faith formation, fellowship, and fun.
Sunday Morning Faith Formation
Each week at 10am our children are invited to join a Faith Formation class that is age appropriate. During this 45 minutes they will be taught Bible fundamentals, formational liturgy, songs, and other activities to reinforce their faith. Our fantastic teachers are ready and willing to greet your child and help them feel safe, supported and cared for as they enjoy fun, crafts and each other. You can sign in at the welcome desk from 9:45 to 10:15.
Children in Worship
At GFBC, we strive to be inclusive and welcoming of people of all ages during worship—including children! We have resources available to parents and caretakers to help engage kids in worship. Children's bulletins and age-appropriate books based upon the liturgical season are available in the narthex. Second graders and above are led through a "Ready for Worship" class to prepare them for participation in the full worship service. There are also many opportunities for children to participate in worship. If you would like to know more, contact Maryanne Henderson or the Children's Ministry Team.
Children’s Time is for children ages 4 through 1st grade and is held during the 11:00 worship hour. The children go to worship with their parents and after the Children's Parable they follow the leaders to the children's wing. During Children’s Time, the children play games and do crafts in a safe and loving environment.
Nursery is available during Sunday School and worship service times for children aged birth to 3 years.
GFBC's graded choirs provide children spiritual formation and nurturing as they develop their musical skills and learn leadership in the worship of God. Choristers will learn the true meaning of making a joyful noise with voices and instruments as they participate in rehearsals each week on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10am. They also lead in our worship services on occasion.
On Second Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7pm, children are invited to attend Mission Kids. During this time, they will participate in the packing of backpacks for two of our local elementary schools. The backpacks are filled with food to help families who are food insecure on the weekends. The children learn the act of living out a missional life in concrete ways and have an impact in our community. They also spend time learning about the call of Jesus to care for others and study how to be Christ in the world.
